AYCF says it has uncovered plans to destabilise the north

- The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) says it is not ready to toy with the unity of the northern part of Nigeria

- The group, through Yerima Shettima, its head, says it has discovered plans by some people to cause disaffection between some notable people in the region

The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) says it has unearthed a plan by some people in the north to cause a major disaffection between former head of state, Abdulsalami Abubakar and Hamza Al-Mustapha, a former chief security officer to late dictator Sani Abacha.

In a statement made available to Legit.ng by Alhaji Yerima Shettima, the head of the AYCF, the group warned those carrying what it called the fake news of a possible revelation by Al-Mustapha to desist from it.

"In recent weeks, a bellicose statement credited to former Chief Security Officer to late General Abacha – Major Hamza Al-Mustapha - has gone viral online. We learnt that it is still being massively spread on WhatsApp chat groups.

"The statement claimed that Al-Mustapha is threatening to make revelations in order to “expose” former military head of state Abdussalami Abubakar’s purported bad past, as a form of revenge.

"This infantile claim is clearly a deliberate ploy to create bad blood among the Northern political elite, as a calculated strategy of ruining the peace we are currently enjoying," the AYCF said.

According to the northern group, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha has since made peace with Abubakar in the spirit of brotherhood and progress and the matter has since been thrown into the dustbin of history.

The group also vouched for Al-Mustapha describing him as a man of his words who would never bring back past bickering, for whatever reason.

"We strongly believe that bringing back an issue that was already resolved, was politically-motivated as a strategy for destabilising the northern region, at a time all hands are on deck to confront the multiple challenges facing the North and its people

"We urge all well-meaning northerners and indeed the north as a whole,, to disregard these ranting of enemies of our unity, peace and progress.

"We are convinced that the promoters of this hate message are targeting the good and unsuspecting lovers of the north and its development, at a critical point in the history of this nation

"We condemn in the strongest possible terms, the attempt to use the social media as a ladder for drawing back the hand of the clock.

"The goal of the promoters of this already-forgotten issue is obvious to all by now and we need to join hands to stop them in their tracks.

"We hope and pray that Nigerians and indeed the North, see through the thin veil of spreading hate messages in the social media and put the mischief-makers where they truly belong.

"Major Hamza Al-Mustapha has moved on and so did General Abdussalam Abubakar, in brotherhood and for the good of all. In due course, we will unmask these fringe groups, working to destabilize our region at a critical point in time. We have warned. Whoever has ear, let him hear!" The statement read.
