On December 18, 2016, NAIJ.com created a poll as part of the 2016 in review campaign.
Our readers were asked to vote their politician of the year. Now the results of that poll are collated and we are happy to present them to you!
The politicians nominated for Politician of the Year were:
- Abdulmumin Jibrin, the All Progressives Congress (APC) member of the House of Representatives representing Kiru/Bebeji constituency of Kano state.
- Ayodele Fayose, the Ekiti state governor, has become a sort of enigma. Fayose's consistent attacks on President Muhammadu Buhari kept him in the limelight during the whole year.
- Femi Fani-Kayode, the former aviation minister, has always been vocal about his political stance and feelings on sensitive issues and so he made the list.
- Ex-governor Adams Oshiomole of Edo state also made the shortlist. The husband of the beautiful Iara is and one of the most important and influential politicians in the country today. He is likely to become a minister in the Buhari's cabinet come 2017.
From the polls, and the comments on our Facebook pages, in fourth place, we had Adams Oshiomole. One act that earned Oshiomhole a place in our prestigious politician of the year category is his doggedness in seeing that his party continued in power in Edo, thereby preserving his legacy with his hand-picked Godwin Obaseki as his chosen successor.
In third place, we had Femi Fani-Kayode, for the record, FFK was seized by the EFCC to answer questions about the Dasuki arms scandal, but after weeks in detention, he was released as usual. The case is still ongoing in the court.
Abdulmumin Jibrin came in second place, as many readers praised him for exposing the rot in the House of Assembly.
And the winner of the NAIJ.com Politician of the Year for 2016 is Governor Peter Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state.
Many comments praised his outspoken nature and even his sometimes brash behaviour.
Thank you for your reading NAIJ.com and for active participation. Remember, we did not mean to insult anyone, only to entertain!
