Members of the Senate presided over by Bukola Saraki got furious on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 following the refusal of ministers and heads of departments and agencies to appear before them for budget defence.
The senators therefore issued a 48-hour ultimatum to all heads of ministries, departments and agencies to appear before its relevant committees by Friday, February 24, according to a report by the Punch.
The report said while ruling on the motion for adjournment moved by the majority leader, Ahmad Lawan, Senate President Saraki asked the committees to use their discretionary powers against any ministry, agency or department whose head refuses to turn up by Friday.
Saraki further disclosed that the leadership of the National Assembly would meet with acting President Yemi Osinbajo later on Wednesday to report the ministers and other top officials to him.
At the meeting, discrepancies in the 2017 budget would also be discussed.
