More details on medical doctor who plunged into Lagos Lagoon

More details have emerged on a medical doctor who jumped into the Lagos lagoon on Third Mainland Bridge after he allegedly received a call.

The deceased reportedly told his driver to park his vehicle at the end of the bridge before jumping into the lagoon.

According to the Nation, the doctor has been identified as Allwell Orji, a staff of the Isolo branch of Mt. (Mount) Sinai Hospital.

The doctor, who was said to be on his way to Victoria Island where he was going to attend a Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) meeting when he told his driver, Henry Ita, to park his Nissan Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) at the Adeniji Adele end of the bridge on the excuse that he wanted to pee.

As he came down, the doctor was said to have climbed the bridge’s rail guide and jumped into the ocean at about 4.45pm on Sunday, March 19.

An eye witness at the scene, Uche Magnus, who was in a commercial bus at the time the incident occurred said the doctor jumped into the ocean immediately after he came down from his vehicle.

He said: “I saw everything clearly from where I sat in the commercial bus I was in. The man came down from his jeep and jumped into the water instantly. We all screamed and begged the commercial bus driver to stop. I saw the man when he jumped but nobody could identify the spot where he drowned in the ocean.”

Following the shocking occurrence, his driver, Ita was said to have called Orji’s mother and pastor who arrived the scene some 30 minutes after.

It was learnt that the sympathisers at scene called the Lagos Police emergency unit, which deployed Rapid Response Squad (RRS) riders and marine police to the scene.

When reporters got to the scene at 5.30pm, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), RRS Area Alpha Commander and Officer-in-Charge of Marine Police Team were coordinating rescue operation. The response team of the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA) was also at the scene.

At 5.50pm, Orji’s SUV and his driver were moved to the Adeniji Central Police Station.

Meanwhile, Allwell Oji, a Port Harcourt-based nurse, has released a video to dissociate himself from media reports identifying him as Allwell Orji, the medical doctor who ended his life on Sunday.

Allwell Oji, a Port Harcourt-based nurse, says he is well and alive.

But Oji, whose picture is being used to depict Orji, says he is alive and well.

While the man who jumped into the lagoon was a doctor, Oji said he is a nurse

“Good afternoon, my beloved friends and well-wishers. My name is Oji Allwell, I am a nurse. I am making this online live video in regards to the news that has been trending online about me being a medical doctor who jumped into the lagoon,” Oji said in an incomplete Facebook video.

According to the information on his Facebook page, Allwell Oji, studied at Global Hospital & Health City, Chennai and also attended the school of nursing, Amachara, Umuahia, Abia state.
