It is the season of transparency as Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna state and speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, have decided to publicly displaying their payslips for Nigerians to see.
It all started at the weekend when both politicians traded words over the anti-corruption crusade and lack of accountability in governance.
Dogara challenged Kaduna state to make public its security votes and local council expenditure.
NAIJ.com earlier reported that El-Rufai accepted the challenge and released specific details of his salary and Kaduna state security budget. He also challenged Dogara and the leadership of NASS to show Nigerians details of their budget.
Following El-Rufai’s dare, Dogara released his six months pay slip.
Let us take a look at how the February payslips of both men differ.
1. Basic salary
The payslip released by El-Rufai, shows that the governor’s basic salary is 185,308.75 while that of Dogara is 206,425.83.
2. Net pay
In February, the speaker’s net pay was 206,577.87 while that of the Kaduna state governor was 470,521.

Dogara did not reveal how much he gets as allowance, a detail most Nigerians are interested in knowing. The only information he gave about allowance was the constituency allowance which is N175,461.96. As for El-Rufai, he receives N370,617.50 as hardship allowance.
4. Tax deduction
Dogara’s pay slip shows that a monthly deduction of N55,952 is made for the Pay As You Earn (PAYE) tax. For that of El-rufai, N85,404.51 is deducted for tax.
Nigerians are however not so convinced about the payslips of both men.
Meanwhile, suspended lawmaker Abdulmumin Jibrin has raised doubts over the authenticity of the payslips released by Dogara.
According to him, if the pay slips are authentic, it simply means he as a floor member earns more than the speaker.
