- Adams Oshiomhole and Senator Olorunnibe Mammora have been tipped to replace Lawal as SGF
- Lawal was suspended by the president for issues related to corruption
- They are reports he would not return to the position
Adams Oshiomhole and Senator Olorunnibe Mammora are two of the most likely candidates to replace Babachir Lawal, the suspended secretary of the government of the federation.
Lawal was suspended by President Muhammadu Buhari over mismanagement of the funds allocated to the Presidential Initiative on the North-east (PINE).
The director-general of the National Intelligence Agency, Ayo Oke, was also suspended over recovered fund in an Ikoyi apartment by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
President Buhari set up a three man committee headed by vice president, Professor Yemi Osinbajo and comprising with the National Security Adviser (NSA), Maj.-Gen. Babagana Monguno (rtd), and the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Mr. Abubakar Malami (SAN) as members.
The panel was saddled with the responsibility of investigating the two corruption cases and report back to the president in two weeks.
This Day reports that the former governor of Edo state, Oshiomhole and the former deputy Senate Minority Leader, Mammora were tipped to replace Lawal as sources said it was very unlikely he would return to that position.
The source said: “The general belief is that Babachir Lawal may not survive the findings of the probe panel, so a shortlist has been drawn up.
“Two names featured prominently on the list. They are Adams Oshiomhole and Olorunnimbe Mamora.”
The source revealed that President Buhari had commended the former governor at the expiration of his tenure in 2016 and said he deserved political appointment.
