- Galadima accused President Buhari's special assistant on prosecution Okoi Obono-Obla of making false allegations against him
- He said he is support of the APC which he helped to form but noted that room was created for interlopers to hijack the party's ruling structure
- Galadima says he remains unshaken in his support for President Buhari and the APC
Buba Galadima, a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has blamed the current crisis in the party on the activities of defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Galadima, a member of the national caucus of the APC and member of the party's Board of Trustees, said this in a statement he released on Saturday, April 22.
He was reacting to claims by Okoi Obono-Obla, a special assistant on prosecution to President Buhari, that he was working against the interest of the ruling party.
According to the former national secretary of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change, the defectors exploited a 'critical gap' created by President Muhammadu Buhari's shying away from playing an active part in the dirty games of party politics to cause the current crisis.
He said: "While our leader appeared avuncular and stayed above the fray oftentimes, party leaders traded in promises, assurances and undertakings.
"Therefore, many opportunists, sycophants and interlopers who had access, cashed in on this critical gap to misinterpret the demands of party politics characterized by robust discussions, compliance to due process and consensus building, as rudeness and disloyalty to our leader or the party.
"It was this critical gap that was exploited by newcomers who crossed from the other side with their heavy war chests, recruited some opportunists among us including some of our close friends, used them against us and took control of events through falsehood and propaganda."
Galadima noted that Obono-Obla has questions to answer himself.
He queried: "...where is Chief Okoi Obono-Obla’s report and return of funds released to him by the Congress for Progressives Change (CPC) for the operations of the committee? And yet Chief Okoi Obla is presently engaged in assisting Mr. President to prosecute corrupt people and other offenders."
NAIJ.com recalls that another northern elder and political elite Junaid Mohammed recently raised the alarm over some people which he claimed have hijacked the Presidential Villa Aso Rock from President Muhammadu Buhari.
Mohammed told newsmen in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja on Friday, April 21 that President should perish the idea of running for another term in office because Nigerians were tired of his style of leadership.
