Boko Haram terrorist launched a surprise attack on military officers killing five of them where 40 others where left injured.
The Punch reports that the terrorist were believed to be loyal to Abu Mus’ab Al-Barnawi and they attacked a military convoy on clearance operation between Yobe and Borno states.
A military officer who spoke on the condition of anonymity confirmed the attack.
“At about 1100 hours (1000 GMT) on Thursday, a suicide bomber believed to be a Boko Haram terrorist riding in a van loaded with explosives rammed into a military convoy at Manguzum village.”
“We lost five soldiers in the incident and more than 40 sustained various degrees of injuries.”
Another military source explained that the terrorist rammed into the military vehicle with an explosive-laden tank.
“The armoured tank was seriously damaged and the operation slowed down.”
Meanwhile, the Borno Police Command on Thursday said that it took custody of 536 livestock suspected to have been stolen by the Boko Haram insurgents.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr Damian Chukwu, disclosed this while briefing newsmen in Maiduguri.
Chukwu explained that the animals which comprised 370 cows and 157 goats and sheep were recovered by the military in its various operations in the state.
