Group blasts Obasanjo for comment about Jonathan

- A Niger Delta coalition group criticised Olusegon Obasanjo for his comments about Jonathan

- The group said Obasanjo has no moral right to say anything about Jonathan

- It claimed Jonathan was removed as a result of conspiracy between Yorubas and Hausas

A coalition of civil society groups in the Niger Delta region has described Goodluck Jonathan as the best president Nigeria has had so far and criticised Olusegun Obasanjo for his comments.

Legit.ng had earlier reported that Obasanjo had reiterated that he was against Jonathan running for a second term in office as he had earlier promised not to seek a second term.

Obasanjo said Jonathan showed he was incapable of handling the country’s apex position as he was always looking at the world from the prism of his Ijaw community.

Daily Post reports that the group said there was evil plot against Jonathan which was why he lost his re-election bid.

The group said: “Jonathan remains the best President Nigeria ever had. He may have his own short comings but he has the best democratic credentials far and above his predecessors including the present Government.”

“We disagree with Former President Olusegun Obasanjo in all fronts. OBJ has no moral rectitude to say Jonathan was not qualified to rule the country. When Jonathan was a good political son to OBJ then he was not childish. How can a man of Obasanjo status is making such irresponsible and baseless comment on Jonathan who had all the qualities to govern the Country when they were in good terms? It is quite true that some of our political leaders are becoming a big burden to the younger generation.”

The group insisted that corruption was not the reason Jonathan was voted out but due to the conspiracy between the Yorubas and Hausas.

“He failed because some persons felt governance is their birth right and that nobody apart from them is qualified to rule Nigeria. Even if Jonathan had won the election, there would still be civil war because the conspiracy was to prevent a minority from further steering the ship of the nation.”

“The western powers that aided his defeat were just products of political invention through the propaganda machineries of the Yoruba, Hausa and Fulani hegemony.”

Meanwhile, Obasanjo has revealed that he was against the emergence of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan as president of the country in 2015 after he went against two important promises he made.

Obasanjo said he warned Jonathan not to appoint Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke as minister of petroleum but he refused and went ahead to give her the portfolio.

He also said there was also an initial agreement that Jonathan would not run in the 2015 elections but he refused because he felt he could win the election..
