UNIBEN student drowns in River Benue after he went for a swim (photo)

- A student of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) has drowned in the River Benue

- The student had drowned in the river after he went to have a swim

A 200 level student in the University of Benin, James Odibo, has drowned in the River Benue on the closing day of the Nigeria University Games Association (NUGA), in Makurdi, Benue state.

The young man who was a student of medical laboratory science had gone to the river to swim when he drowned.

Omeche Onoja, the chairman of NUGA, games medical and sanitation sub-committee, who confirmed the incident, revealed that the corpse of the deceased was identified by some students.

Onoja expressed that the committee was informed of the incident after some students made a distress call.

She said: “We had a distress call from some students of the situation but on reaching the river, we found the lifeless body of the student, who has been identified by his colleagues. He was said to have participated in some games. The whole incident could have been avoided.”

Legit.ng gathered that the deceased has been moved to Madonna hospital in Makurdi.
