Nigerian Embassy in Washington shut down

- The Nigerian Embassy in Washington D.C has been shut down

- Workers at the embassy embarked on a sit-in strike over non-payment of their salaries

- The workers have also threatened to report the matter to the United States Labour Department

The Nigerian Embassy in Washington D.C has been shut down, Channels Television reports.

Legit.ng gathered that the embassy was shut down after workers embarked on a sit-in strike which stalled activities at the mission in United States of America.

It was also gathered that the workers have been owed salaries for the past five months.

While some departments of the embassy were still operating, majority of the workers only gathered at the lunch room in the basement.

The staff also threatened to report the embassy to the U.S Labour Department.

It was also gathered that the Nigerian embassy in Washington and its consulate in New York are said to be cash strapped.

Local workers and staff have are yet to be paid after several month of working.

Meanwhile, sources at the Presidency revealed that there has been various allegations of mismanagement of resources within the ministry of foreign affairs.

This, the sources said, has caused lack of concern for staff welfare and difficulty in the missions being able to carry out their functions.
