Governor Wike takes Nigeria Police Force, EFCC and DSS to court

Governor Nyesom Wike has approached the Federal High Court, Abuja to stop his Abuja home from being searched by the authorities.

NAIJ.com gathered that the governor told the court to stop the Nigerian Police Force (NPF), the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) and the Department of Secret Service (DSS) from searching his home.

Wike, through his lawyer, Sylva Ogwemoh (SAN) said the defendants were making moves to obtain a search warrant to carry out a search on his house at Ortega Close, Hassan Usman Katsina Street, Asokoro Extension, Abuja.

Wike alleged that the security operatives are planning to search his home in Port Harcourt as well, Vanguard reports.

The governor urged the court to stop NPF, EFCC and DSS from searching any of his houses.

Wike is praying the court for an order restraining the defendants from applying for, issuing or entering his residence in Abuja or anywhere else in Nigeria, by virtue of a search warrant or any court process which shall compel or require his physical presence.

Ogwemoh claimed that searching the governor's house could not be conducted by the defendants without violating the immunity of the governor.

He said the governor is protected under Section 308 of the Nigerian constitution, and a search of his house will breach this immunity.

NAIJ.com recalls that Governor Wike, who was never in good terms with the police force, had earlier raised alarm of plans by the police to implicate him.

In a report by NAIJ.com on Saturday, April 29, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers has alleged that there is a plot by the police to kill him or implicate him by planting weapons and huge sum of money in his house in Abuja.

Wike alleged that the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, wants to raid his house in Abuja and plant large amount of dollars, guns and weapons in a bid to incriminate him.
