Delta police command has confirmed the kidnap of a lecturer attached to the Delta State University, Oleh campus, one Mr. Kingsley Uwubiti.
Andrew Aniamaka, the state police public relations officer, told NAIJ.com that the case was initially treated as armed robbery but the unfolding event showed that it is a kidnap case, hence the state anti-kidnap squad of the police command had swung into action to apprehend the suspects.
Aniamaka further told NAIJ.com that the anti-kidnap unit of the police had made some arrests but “we’ve not been able to see the connection between the suspects arrested and the particular one that did the kidnapping.
"So we stand on the cooperation of all especially in the area of information. So that we depend on information from members of the public to apprehend the actual suspect in the crime. He was not kidnapped on campus but outside the campus.”
It was learnt that the abductors had demanded for N100million ransom to be paid before he could be released. He was said to be a lecturer at Oleh campus.
Further investigation revealed that he was driving along the newly constructed Oleh-Ozoro road at about 10pm on Saturday night.
It was also learnt that students and lecturers at the Oleh campus of Delta state university are awe-stricken as the news broke into the campus that the lecturer had been whisked away by unknown gunmen.
This is not the first time Delta state university lecturers are being kidnapped in the state.
However, some of these kidnap later turn out to be the handiwork of students who may have felt aggrieved by the action of some of the lecturers.
