- Just like in the case of Buhari, many citizens of Zimbabwe think Mugabe is too old and cannot withstand the forthcoming election

Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe has become the second African leader to leave the shores of the continent on health ground.

The 93-year-old president has been flown to Singapore, an Asian nation, the Zimbabwean government said in a statement reported by Kabsedo.

President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria travelled on Sunday to London for a medical check weeks after his return from the country.

As the country prepares for the election in 2018, Mugabe’s health status has become an issue.

While Buhari left for London on Sunday, May 7, Mugabe flew to Singapore late on Monday, May 8.

But unlike Buhari whose trip to London is indefinite, Zimbabwe’s ministry of Information said Mugabe was expected to return home at the weekend.

Currently, Mugabe is finding it difficult to walk. He goes about with security aides seriously monitoring him.

The report described Mugabe thus: “On May 4 at a World Economic Forum Summit in South Africa, Mugabe sat slumped in his chair, wringing his hands, as he told a panel discussion in a low murmur that his country was not a ‘fragile state’.”

Some citizens of his country say he is not fit to continue in government, but Mugabe thinks there is no viable opposition to his government.
