Lagos polls: APC endorses automatic ticket for 18 aspirants

- The leadership of the All Progressives Congress has endorsed automatic ticket for 18 chairmanship aspirants of the party

- Not less than 2,500 aspirants indicated interested in getting the APC ticket for the 57 LGAs and 373 wards as chairmen and councillors

- APC national leader Bola Tinubu said the 18 chairmen were promised automatic ticket for their efforts in the party

The All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the July 22 local government election in Lagos State, have gotten automatic tickets to 18 chairmanship aspirants of the party, Daily Trust reports.

NAIJ.com gathered that all councillors who had served one term in the last dispensation would be returned.

Not less than 2,500 aspirants were interested in getting the APC ticket for the 57 LGAs and 373 wards as chairmen and councillors.

The decisions of the party were taken during a stakeholders’ meeting held at its Acme road secretariat in Ogba, Lagos.

The stakeholders met ahead of the party's primaries slated for Saturday, May 13.

However, the ambition of thousands of the aspirants may have hit the brick wall as the party agreed on returning one-term councillors and 18 ex-chairmen.

A source also said that thirty nine other chairmanship aspirants might have also been hand-picked ahead of the election.

APC National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, his Deputy, Mrs Idiat Adebule, Speaker of the House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, and other party stakeholders attended the meeting.

According to an earlier report by NAIJ.com, Tinubu, said that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would not record any win in the forthcoming council polls in Lagos State.

Tinubu regretted the loss of some national and state legislative seats to the PDP in the 2015 general elections.

He said: “2015 election was the greatest battle of our time. In the last election, we lost more than three LGAs to our opponents, which is very unusual.

“We have asked our leaders in those local governments to examine what went wrong and work together to chart a new course to ensure the APC wins back those councils."
