Police kill suspected killers of assistant commissioner of police

- The police in Delta engaged some armed robbers in a gun battle killing five of them

- The suspected killers were responsible for the death of assistant commissioner of police, Usman Ndanbobo.

- The police vowed to arrest other suspects who fled during the encounter

Operatives of the Delta state police command of the State Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Squad (SAKCCS) have killed five suspected killers of the area commander of Ughelli, Usman Ndanbobo.

Vanguard reports that Mr. Zanna Ibrahim who is the state commissioner of police confirmed the killing of members of the robbery syndicate.

The police said the syndicate is responsible for some of the atrocities committed in the region.

“The suspects have complicity in most robbery attacks/kidnappings within Ughelli and environs, including the attack that led to the death of the Area Commander, Ughelli, ACP Usman Ndanbabo and yet to be seen late DSP German Emmanuel, who was declared missing September 2016.”

“Serious operations are in progress to arrest other fleeing members.”

“A patrol team attached to Oleh Division, led by Superintendent of Police and vigilante men in the area rushed to the scene and on sighting the team, the robbers fled into the bush.”

“They were trailed into the deep bush, they shot at the team, which replied fire for fire and on combing the bush, one Umoru M, alias Yellow, Usman Abdullahi, Bello Mohammed, all of Fulani extraction were rounded up with bullet injuries and five live cartridges, six assorted phones, wallet containing identity card, ATM card, industrial boot belonging to the robbery victims,” he said.

Ibrahim confirmed that the suspects were fatally injured before they were rushed to the hospital where they were confirmed dead.

NAIJ.com had earlier reported that Ndanbobo was shot on Sunday, May 7 and although he was rushed to the hospital, he later passed away.

According to an officer, “He was returning from an outing at about 8:00p.m in his Nissan SUV when he noticed that a Toyota car had been trailing him. He tried fleeing from his car when he got to the roundabout opposite the palace of the Ovie of Ughelli, along Isoko Road, but his assailants opened fire on him, shooting him on the back and his stomach and left him to die.

“He was immediately rushed to a private clinic at Ughelli for medical attention, but was referred to another private clinic in Warri for treatment owing to the gravity of the gunshot wounds.”
