Church asks Akwa Ibom first lady to clear her name from financial scandal

Church asks Akwa Ibom first lady to clear her name from financial scandal gathered that a church in Akwa Ibom state has made a desperate plea to the wife of the governor of the state, to clear the air after she was mentioned in a local government council financial scandal.

According to reports, the wife of the Akwa Ibom state governor, Mrs Martha Emmanuel, has been implicated in a mismanaged funds scandal.

The first lady has been called out by the pastor of the Glorious Life Ministry, in Akwa Ibom, who asked her to clear her name from the scandal.

Mrs Emmanuel was implicated by the transition committee in charge of Itu local government council, after claims that missing funds were used to pay her bills.

The transition committee which is led by Elsie Esara, are said to be mismanaging and stealing public funds. Mrs Esara is said to be in a fight with three supervisors; Ubong Edem who is in charge of Works, Kufre Ema who is in charge of Special Duties, and Emem Uboh who is in charge of Health.

In a petition sent to the state's house of assembly, they said:

(She) deceives and misleads members of the Committee that the internally generated revenue meant for the council was used to settle bills on behalf of the First Lady of our dear state.”

The supervisors also mentioned that Mrs Esara said she has been giving money to some of the council's influential indigenes, naming former senator Anietie Okon, Idongesit Ituen, the Itu representative at the state House of Assembly and Akan Okon, the commissioner for Special Duties.

She also reportedly gave some of the funds to Dr Henry Archibong, who represents Itu at the federal house of representative, Effiong and Victor Okon, PDP stalwarts.

Seeing as the governor's wife is yet to respond to the scandal which broke several weeks back, Pastor Israel Mboutidem said:

Her Excellency’s silence over the issue isn’t the best thing to do in this situation, silence will always be construed to mean yes, especially by your enemies.

The story we are hearing from Itu is shameful. It’s a big shame that in this period of economic recession where people are even committing suicide because of hardship, a few people could still sit down every month to share money that belongs to an entire local government, all in the name of politics.

It’s unfortunate and we feel saddened that Her Excellency Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel’s name is associated with what is happening in Itu.

She (Mrs. Emmanuel) is one woman that we respect and cherish because of her godly works, especially her passion for helping the poor, but if you are a friend to people who steal from the poor masses and you are also benefiting directly from the stealing, it then means that you have brought shame to your name.

I wish someone close to her would advise her to urgently speak up and clear her name before further damage is done.

Let nobody be deceived, if you are a politician, a civil servant or whatever, and you steal public funds that would have gone a long way to help the poor to get some help, you would have attracted God’s anger and punishment to yourself, your family and everything that belongs to you."

Mrs Esara was summoned to the House of Assembly during a plenary session, to answer why she sued the house to court, and refused to appear before the state house committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

Apologizing to the house who is going to make a decision at their next sitting, she said she had acted after listening to the 'ill-advice' from former Senator Okon who had asked her to sue.
