Coup plot: Lawyers seek further probe into General Buratai's claims

- Some lawyers have moved for further probe into a statement made by Lt Gen Tukur Buratai

- Buratai had recently warned soldiers to stay away from associating closely with politicians

- Certain senior lawyers in the country fear that politicians might be meeting soldiers to carry out some hideous tasks

Certain senior advocates in the country have asked that the recent warning by Lt Gen Tukur Buratai should not be taken for granted.

Buratai had warned in an earlier report by Legit.ng, that army officials should stay off politics and politically related activities.

The chief said this on Tuesday, May 16, in a statement issued by the army spokesperson, Sani Usman.

Reacting to Buratai's warning, Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), said the officers involved as well as the politicians should be identified.

The activist said the military ought to investigate properly and if possible set up a special panel over the issue.

Ozekhome claims that the chaotic state of the country is good cover for a coup.

He said all the coups in Nigeria have always been played out when there is so much disaffection and dissatisfaction among the populace.

Stressing that it is inconceivable that some military personnel, seeing the shambles, the directionlessness, the lack of compass, the state of fixation and melancholy in the country may want to find an extra-legal of having another government.

The activist urged the authorities find whoever is approaching the military officers.

He said they should find them out. It may be that it is the military officers that are reaching out to the politicians. It could either way – a symbiotic relationship.
