Boko Haram: There are efforts to rubbish the gains made by Buhari - Presidency

- The ongoing efforts to rid the north east of Boko Haram insurgents has not gone down well with some elements in the society

- This is the position of the personal assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on social media, Lauretta Onochie

- The presidential aide said the Nigerian Army has done well under President Buhari

The ongoing efforts to rid the North east of Boko Haram insurgents has not gone down well with some elements in the society, the personal assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on social media, Lauretta Onochie, has said.

Onochie was reacting to an interview on Channels TV which featured Mr Salahudeen Hashim, the senior programme officer, Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CSLAC).

A report by Transparency International Defence And Security released on Thursday, May 18, highlighted how Nigeria’s political elites hid under the cover of the country’s military to steal billions of dollars for years.

The report which was in partnership with CSLAC revealed how corrupt officials over the years exploited the excessive secrecy of the country’s defence budget to rip off the nation.

Onochie said the report was made to look like the issues highlighted in the report are still ongoing.

She wrote: “There is a concerted effort to rubbish the gains Nigerians made under this government in the areas of fighting insecurity, corruption and the economy.

“The aim and manner of presentation of the recent 2010-2015 report on the Nigerian Army, was meant to misinform, taint and demoralise.

"The Nigerian Army has done brilliantly under President Buhari. The report that was presented a few days ago, covers 2010-2015. Not current.

“The 2010-2015 report, released to indict the Nigerian Army, was written in present tense, making it seem as if it's happening now. Sad!"

Meanwhile, the federal government has condemned the recent mutiny by a small fraction of Cote d’Ivoire's armed forces, against the government.

In a statement posted on the Nigerian Presidency Twitter page on Wednesday, May 17, the Nigerian government expressed strong and unflinching support for President Alassane Ouattara, commending him for his ongoing efforts at resolving the crisis.

The statement also urged all parties to exercise maximum restraint, remain calm and continue dialogue.
