Brigadier Sulaiman Zakari Kazaure, the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has announced that there might be increase in corps members' allowances.

However, he made it clear that any increase in the allowance of Corps members will be determined by the introduction of a new minimum wage for workers.

While speaking in Minna following the swearing-in of Batch A Stream 1 of the 2017 orientation programme on Thursday, May 25 he said: “The NYSC allowance is determined by the national minimum wage. We are waiting on the government to take a decision on the new wage structure before we know what to do."

He also made it clear that the scheme was aware that the allowance received by corps members was small, especially with the current economic downturn in the country.
