Outrage over Captain Maxwell Mahama's brutal murder

The horrific lynching of Ghana Army's Captain Maxwell Mahama by a mob at Denkyira Boase in the Central Region, has provoked a firestorm of outrage on social media.

Hundreds of Ghanaians have been emphatic in their condemnation of the lynching, which they have described as a dastardly act.

Ghanaian media reports say that some women from whom he had sought directions spotted a pistol on him and phoned an assembly men in the area that they had found an armed robber.

The said assembly man reportedly rallied the youth in the area to beat and kill the captain who was not wearing his army uniform.

Captain Mahama was burnt to death after the beating. Legit.ng has decided not to publish the gory pictures of his charred body.

There have also been some reports that the soldier was killed because he was protecting some Chinese illegal miners.

Legit.ng has learnt that the late army captain had a wife and two young children.

This revelation further angered many commentators on social media and deepened the pain they were feeling.

Many of them, therefore, called for a swift investigation into what they called a barbaric crime.

Some decried what they called the culture of the so-called instant justice, which leads people to instantly kill those they suspect to be thieves.

Other social media users called for the assembly man who is accused of directing the killing to be brought to justice.
