600 security personnel deployed to Maiduguri churches, mosques

- Security personnel have been deployed to Maiduguri worship centres

- The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Borno command has made plans to protect people from attacks

- This is to curb suspected bomb attacks by Boko Haram at worship centres, especially during Ramadan

The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Borno command, has deployed about 600 security personnel to various worship centres in the state to protect people during Ramadan.

Ibrahim Abdullahi, the state Commandant of the Corps, explained the move to NAN on Sunday, June 4, 2017.

According to Abdullahi, the deployment was to curtail suspected bomb attacks by Boko Haram at worship centres, especially during the month of Ramadan.

He said that the team included officials of the anti-riot squad, bomb detection and disposal unit as well as intelligence and detective unit.

He said: “We have also boosted our security checks and patrol at various institutions of learning especially University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) that had suffered many attacks this year.

“The students should therefore have no course for alarm as they go about their studies.

"We therefore appeal to residents to assist the security agencies with relevant information that will enable us nip any suspected threat of Boko Haram or any other elements in the bud.

“We advise all worship centres in the areas where we are not stationed our personnel to ensure that some persons be on the watch while others are praying.

“They should also be alert to strange faces."

He also said they have increased surveillance at commercial centres, markets, motor parks, amusement parks and shopping malls in the state capital to ensure protection of the populace.

Legit.ng earlier reported that about six persons have been killed and 30 others injured following a Boko Haram bomb attack on a camp housing displaced persons in northern Cameroon.

The twin blasts which tore through the camp in the town of Kolofata, occurred about 6am after two bombers sneaked into the camp and detonated their bombs killing themselves, the New Telegraph reports.
