Within the next two weeks, food prices will crash - Audu Ogbeh

- Ogbeh says that the federal government is currently talking to farmers to ensure that prices drop

- According to the minister, while high prices are bad for non-farmers, it is good for the country as regards growth of the agricultural sector

- More details would be given to Nigerians in due course, Ogbeh says

The minister of agriculture Audu Ogbeh has assured Nigerians that within the next two weeks, prices of foodstuffs, including rice, would crash.

In a chat with Leadership newspaper Ogbeh, who also doubles as the chairman of the presidential task force on soaring prices of foodstuffs, stated that the government was set to crash prices of foodstuffs after undergoing weeks of underground work.

He said: “The federal government will intervene on the prices of rice and other commodities in the next two weeks; details of the intervention would be spelt out for all Nigerians.

“We are talking to farmers to ensure that the prices are drastically reduced. Government has also put in place different measures aimed at making farming encouraging.

“Although the high price is bad for non-farmers, it is good for the country because more and more people will rush to agriculture. At the end of it all, production will increase and prices will necessarily fall.”
