Igbo quit notice a product of youthful exuberance - Onyema

- The Chairman, Foundation for Ethnic Harmony in Nigeria (FEHN), Chief Allen Onyema urged Nigerians to ignore quit notice threat by Arewa youth

- Onyema said the threat was borne out of youthful exuberance of AYCF

- He, therefore cautioned Prof. Ango Abdullahi to stop making statements that may stoke the fire of disunity in the country

The Chairman, Foundation for Ethnic Harmony in Nigeria (FEHN), Chief Allen Onyema, has described the three months quit notice issued to Igbos by the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum as “a product of youthful exuberance.”

Daily Trust reports that Onyema said that the northern leaders, elders and other Nigerians should ignore the statement credited to some Arewa youths asking Igbos in the North to vacate the region.

NAIJ.com gathered that Onyema, whose foundation had been in the forefront of promoting ethnic harmony and unity in Nigeria, said the best thing for Nigerians to do was to take the call with a pinch of salt.

In an interview with Daily Trust in Lagos, Onyema observed that the statement did not reflect the stand of the people of the North, whom he said had been accommodative of all ethnic groups across the country.

He flayed the statement credited to a northern elder, Alhaji Ango Abdullahi, advising elders to be conscious of statements “which stoke the fire of disunity in the country.”

He said Nigeria, with over 278 ethnic nationalities, should see the diversity bestowed on it by God Almighty as a source of strength, noting that many countries wished they had enjoyed such diversity.

NAIJ.com had previously gathered that the acting president Yemi Osinbajo met with leaders from the northern and eastern part of Nigeria to resolve the crisis which has surfaced following the quit notice issued to Igbos living in the norther part of the country.
