- Iyere was shot in the head by the kidnappers who later left him to die beside his vehicle

An aide to ex-Governor of Plateau state Jonah Jang has been killed by kidnappers in northern part of Nigeria.
Nigerian Tribune reports that the aide Elder Sunny Iyere killed along Abuja-Kafanchan highway and two people traveling with him were kidnapped and held hostage for three days.
Iyere was said to have been traveling from Abuja to Jos on Tuesday, June 13 in his car with other occupants when he was attacked by the kidnappers numbering about eight at Kafanchan forest in Kaduna State.
He was shot in the head by the marauders in an attempt to stop the speeding vehicle.
One of those that escaped narrated the terrible story of how the kidnappers, seeing that he was bleeding heavily, abandoned Iyere beside his car where he died and they dragged others into the bush.
A family member of the deceased who did not want his name mentioned confirmed the story.
He said the family got to know about the sad event when the deceased’s wife called him at about 11pm but the phone was switched off.
She however received a call 30 minutes later that her husband was in the hospital.
The other two kidnapped victims were set free on Friday, June 16 at about 3:00 a.m. at a village along Abuja to Kaduna road and have arrived in Jos.
The police in the area could immediately confirm the incident.
The Plateau State Police Public Relations Officer ASP Terna Tyopev said the command was not aware of the incident.
“If the incident happened in Kafanchan which is part of Kaduna State, we may not have the detail or the information, nevertheless I will find out...” he said.
