Abdulmumin Jibrin surprises Nigerians with millions, canvasses support for Buhari

- Honorable Abdulmumin Jibrin has kicked-off a photo-captioning contest

- The competition is aimed at canvassing support for President Muhammadu Buhari

- Winners of the contest are to go home with up to a hundred thousand Naira each, with millions up for grabs

- The lawmaker says the competition is organized in the spirit of Ramadan

Appreciating an illustration of President Muhammadu Buhari, embattled lawmaker, Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin, on Wednesday announced decision to reward 10 internet users with N100,000 each on Instagram and 10 more on Facebook.

Winners are internet users able to come up with the best descriptions of the unsigned illustration of President Buhari and wife, Aisha, enjoying a meal while their two children, Zahrah and Yusuf, eavesdrop.

For the Instagram version, the lawmaker announced @mareeyaama and @jag_baba as judges, while Maryam Shetty and Liberty Badmus selected winners on Facebook private messages, and Abdulaziz Bin Abdulaziz as the judge of public entries on Facebook.

"The selectors used various criteria that give deeper interpretation of the sketch from various angles," said the lawmaker, revealing that 800 entires were received at the close of submissions.

The winners, on Instagram, are: @okoye_chidiebere, @tunabanny, @fran6.freespring, @hindu_amin, @teemah_writes, @don_lete, @ameenatu_s, and @horlahmeeworship, while the winners of Facebook category are Sadeeya Kakangi, Miriam-Barbra Onwus, Cmr Nasir illiyasu Kinkinau, Lawal Mohammed Sani, Junaid Muhammad U. Sharfadi, Bashir Ag Bello, Salamatu Musa Dembe, Alumona Obinna, Aisha Dahiru, Balogun Idowu Bima, Chamsuddeen Chareef Yusuf  and Idoko Isaac Junior.

The illustrator, according to the lawmaker, will also smile home with a cash gift. "While the entries were going on, I commenced the search for the guy who did the sketch.

“This was also interesting as many fake people came up to claim it, perhaps because of the reward I promised but the real owner emerged with the help of an Instagram user.

"He presented proofs and also sent me the original sketch which I am using for this post. It is the work of a US based Ghanaian artist, Kwadwo Bediako, who is the founder “PenciledCelebrities”.

The Twitter category came with a different criterion, with a price tag of N250,000 for winners.

"I have a handsome reward for who ever gets the 1000 retweets, tweeted the lawmaker. This set the microblogging site on a frenzy as users including the popular lawyer and public affairs, @AminuGamawa who offered to "donate the money towards girl-education in northern Nigeria," canvassed for retweets to emerge as winners.

The price tag was later increased to one million Naira to make 10 winners go home with N100,000 each as done on Facebook and Instagram.

Revealing his reason for the show of generosity, Hon. Jibrin tweeted, "The whole idea is to use this beautiful family sketch to promote the good qualities and work of President Muhammad Buhari."

"We urge all the winners to use their money in the best possible way. The spirit of ramadan has continued to encourage more generosity in us."

In a similar vein, the former chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriation Abdulmumin Jibrin has debunked reports of his expulsion from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Jibrin in a series of tweets on Thursday, June 15, said he alleged expulsion from the party emanated from impersonators with the party in Kano state.

He said: "My attention has been drawn to a false claim attributed to some mischievous impersonators that I've been expelled from my party, the APC."

"This report, I've gathered, came from a known fraudster who is neither chair of my party at the LG level nor a part of the state party EXCO," Jibrin said.

Similarly, the Kano state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed reports that it expelled a suspended member of the House of Representatives, Abdulmumin Jibrin, from the party, barely 48 hours after it was reported.

In a statement issued by the party’s public relations officer, Bashir Yahaya Karaye, the APC described the expulsion as a mischief carried out by one of its officials that breached all protocols, The Nation reports.

The unfounded report was said to have originated from a member of the party who clearly abused the party’s protocols in disseminating that wrong information to the public.

The statement reads: “We have received with absolute disappointment rumour of expulsion of Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, a strong pillar of our party, the APC in Kano and Nigeria as a whole.

“The party wishes to state that neither the leader of the party in Kano, His Excellency, the executive Governor of Kano, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje nor the state chairman and state executive committee were consulted or endorsed such mischievous act.

“The party is appealing to the public to disregard that mischief as it sets out to penalize all the members involved in this dispiriting embarrassment and unnecessary confusion among members and in the media.”
