Half of the food sent to North for Boko Haram victims are being diverted - Osinbajo laments

- Fifty percent of the food being sent to IDP camps are allegedly being diverted

- Acting President Yemi Osinbajo lamented over the development

- He promised to provide adequate security to protect the food from theft

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo has lamented that fifty percent of the food meant for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) are being diverted to other people.

Osinbajo said aid going missing had "dogged food delivery", citing reports which showed that more than 50 lorries out of every 100 sent to the north-east never reach their destination.

According to a report by BBC, Osinbajo said that the latest consignment of aid which is making its way to the north-east is being protected by more than a thousand soldiers.

Recall that Nigerian government recently apologised to Saudi Arabia for diverting tonnes of dates sent as free gift by the Arab to IDP camps during Ramadan.

Meanwhile, the lists of relief materials meant for the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) of Bakassi allegedly diverted has been revealed.

NAIJ.com gathered that the diverted items include 20 bags of Beans, 20 bags of Rice, 20 bags of garri, and 10 mattresses.

Other items include 7 cooking stoves, 10 cooking pots, 10 jerrycans of palm oil, 10 Vegetable oil, assorted drug, exercise books (25 dozens), Blankets-3, Mosquito nets-25, Jet cream-2, cartons of salt-4 bags, Sugar-3 bags, writing materials, 5 cartons Joy soap and 15 cartons of Zip Detergent.
