APC not an escape route for Obanikoro — Chieftain

- A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said defection from Peoples Democratic Party will not save former minister Musiliu Obanikoro

- The party said Obanikoro's defection is a welcome development

- The APC however said Obanikoro must face his prosecution with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that there is no hiding place for the former minster of defence Musiliu Obanikoro.

The party also told Obanikoro that APC is not an escape route for him following his ongoing investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Reacting to reports of a possible defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to APC by Obanikoro, an executive of the ruling party in Lagos state said the party is no hiding place.

The official who spoke on condition of anonymity said Obanikoro's defection is a welcome development but not a move that will end EFCC's investigations on him.

He said: "We welcome him; the more, the merrier. We understand by his defection, he is fighting to survive his political life. But we must understand that the war against corruption being waged by the current administration of President Muhammadu Buhari is one that harps more on institutions and not individuals."

NAIJ.com had reported the former minister had finally joined the APC.

Obanikoro during a press briefing in Lagos, after a meeting with the national leader of the APC Bola Tinubu said, he was glad to be back home (APC).

But the chieftain in his reaction said the party understands the former minister is fighting to survive in his political life.
