A statement by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that it has notified Senator Dino Melaye about a petition from some voters in Kogi west senatorial district demanding his recall has been denied by the lawmaker.
NAIJ.com recalls that electoral commission on Thursday, June 22 formally acknowledged the receipt of the petition on Melaye’s recall.
The national commissioner of INEC, Mohammed Haruna, in a statement said the commission deliberated on the petition at its weekly regular meeting held on Thursday, June 22, and would begin would proceed to the next step which involves verifying to ensure that the petitioners are registered voters in the Kogi West Senatorial District.

However, Dino Melaye has contradicted the claims on INEC, saying the electoral commission has not contacted him over the issue.
“I have not received anything from INEC,” Melaye told the Leadership in a phone interview.
Meanwhile, the senator has warned that some appointees of the kogi state government would be sent to prison for alleged forgery over his recall process.
Melaye who gave the warning in a Facebook post on Wednesday, June 15 alleged that dead people’s names were on the recall register.
He also maintained that he was not bothered about the issue.
