Identity of Evans’ top gun supplier revealed

Security agencies in Bayelsa state seem to have identified the gun supplier of alleged notorious billionaire kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeje Onwuamadike, aka Evans.

Evans, who has been making useful confessions since his arrest had named one Suoyo as one of the active members of his gang, who was tasked with buying arms and ammunition, for their operations, The Nation reports.

He said: “When Suoyo, who lives in Bayels State, called me and expressed fears, I also assured him that nothing was going to happen. I told him I was making plans for another operation and needed him to go into the creeks and buy a new set of arms and ammunition.”

Following Evan’s confession, security commanders in a meeting in Bayelsa state over the weekend were said to be certain that the Suoyo mentioned by Evans was a suspect, Suoyo Dickson, recently arrested by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in the state in connection with an attack on a pipeline belonging to the Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC).

The suspect, who is popularly known as Hustler, had reportedly led a gang of vandals that attacked the Agip pipeline at Lagosgbene, Southern Ijaw local government area of the state on May 30, 2017.

He was however, caught on June 16, 2017 at Agbigiba community in Southern Ijaw.

Suoyo told security agencies that he had some criminal camps in the creeks.

Legit.ng learnt that he was then handed over to the Joint Task Force, Operation Delta Safe (ODS) for further investigations.

A security source said the security commander comprising of the of ODS, the police and NSCDC agreed that Suoyo should be subjected to further investigations.

The source said the security heads believed the suspect was responsible for the theft of service rifles of security operatives especially policemen in the state.

"The security heads also agreed to compile a list of such stolen arms and ammunition in the state and send it to the Force Headquarters to know whether they were among the ones recovered from Evans.

“The Suoyo mentioned by Evans seems in all ramifications to be the same suspected arrested by the NSCDC recently in connection with attack on a pipeline. The security heads in the state believe so and they will surely carry out further investigations to determine his linkage with the Evans’ gang," the source said.

Meanwhile, a senior police officer whose name has been concealed to protect him from prosecution, has said that Evans was arrested in Imo state, but regained freedom afterwards.

He told newsmen that Evans was arrested in 2006, after his gang of robbers attacked a commercial bank in Lagos.

The then Divisional Police Officer of Iponri Police Station, Yahaya Bello, now a deputy commissioner of police, was in the know of the incident, the sources claimed.

According to the Senior officer, it was confirmed that one of the members of the gang arrested then was Chukwudi Onuamadike, popularly known as Evans.
