Niger Delta militants threaten to stop oil exploration if Osinbajo's regime is toppled

- A group of Niger Delta militants vow to resist any plan by the north to fund a junta government with the oil from the Niger Delta region

- The militants advise all oil workers in the Niger Delta to vacate all oil facilities for their own safety

- The group calls on all Ijaws and Niger Deltans scattered across the country and West Africa to immediately return to their fatherland

A group of Niger Delta militants have threatened to stop oil exploration in the Niger Delta region if the north carries out a coup against Acting President Yemi Osinbajo.

The group, Niger Delta Revolutionary Crusaders (NDRC), in a statement by its spokesperson, WOI Izon-Ebi, on Monday, June 26 alleged that the north was aware that President Muhammadu Buhari was incapacitated and was planning to hijack power from Yemi Osinbajo soon.

The militants warned that they would resist any plan by the north to fund a junta government with the oil from the Niger Delta region, Vanguard reports.

The group advised all oil workers in the Niger Delta to vacate all oil facilities for their own safety, saying its defence team will be coming to hoist flag of freedom on infrastructures and assets of the Niger Deltans.

The militants demanded for the restructuring of the country and enthronement of fiscal federalism before October 1, 2017.

The statement by the group in part read: “For the avoidance of doubt, let it be known that the NDRC and other agitators are aware of the plan by a section of the country to carry out a coup to truncate the leadership of Acting President Osinbajo as Mr. President, Muhammadu Buhari, is currently incapacitated. There will be no exploration or exploitation in the Niger Delta if a coup occurs before the October 1, 2017 date.

“NDRC and the amalgamation of all freedom fighters with the 21st century youths of the Niger Delta from the South-South region of the country stand in solidarity with the people of the South –East.

“We will no longer accept the born to rule mentality of an ethnic group, which exploits others for the benefits of a few and reiterate that fiscal federalism with power devolved to the regions as the only panacea for peace in the country.

“The NDRC and the people of the Niger Delta can no longer tolerate vituperations of people like Ango Abdullahi and Junaid Mohammed, who are beating the drums of hatred and war.

“Our advice to the government and so -called owners of Nigeria is that there is no slave/master relationship in the Nigerian federation and there is no recorded Nigerian history whereby Usman Dan Fodio conquered the people of the Niger Delta and as such made the Niger Delta become inferior to the people of the caliphate.“

“The NDRC states categorically that societies are built on justice and equity and as such, come September 31, 2017, we will prove that this is the 21st century and that the renaissance of the Niger Delta has begun. If our fathers in their benevolence, love and sacrifice are seen as cowards, we, the Niger Delta youths of this 21st century are not cowards and we can prove it.”

“The NDRC states categorically that societies are built on justice and equity and as such, come September 31, 2017, we will prove that this is the 21st century and that the renaissance of the Niger Delta has begun. If our fathers in their benevolence, love and sacrifice are seen as cowards, we, the Niger Delta youths of this 21st century are not cowards and we can prove it.”

The militants urged all Ijaws and Niger Deltans scattered across the country and West Africa to immediately return to their fatherland.

Meanwhile, the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) has berated the Nigerian security agencies over the preferential treatment given to Arewa youths in the handling of youth restiveness in the country.

President of the IYC, Eric Omare, in a statement mailed to Legit.ng, said the Nigerian soldiers and police are treating with kids glove the threat issued by youths of the Northern extraction, noting that their silence smacks off irresponsibility of their part.

Omare said the Arewa youths quit notice to Igbos living in the north to vacate the zone by October 1, 2017 amounted to grave threat to national security and the indivisibility of the country.

He, however, said the relevant security agencies have deliberately kept a deaf ear to the security threat posed by the Arewa youths, describing the notice as treasonable offense.
