Buratai insists Boko Haram has been totally defeated

- Boko Haram continues to carry out pockets of attacks in Borno state

- The latest attack indicates that some policewomen might have gone missing

- In spite of all these, Nigeria's Army boss, Lieutenant-General Tukur Buratai insists the insurgents have been totally decimated

Despite renewed and sustained attacks by Boko Haram, Nigeria's Chief of Army Staff, (COAS), Lieutenant-General Tukur Buratai on Thursday, June 29, insisted that Boko Haram insurgents have been totally decimated.

According to Daily Post, the COAS said the attacks being witnessed now was like the case of dying men trying to survive.

Buratai made the statement at a one-day workshop on National Security, with the theme: “Dynamics of National Security: the Role of the Citizens.”

He was however represented at the event by the director of information management, Department of Civil Military Affairs, Army Headquarters, Abuja, Brigadier-General Rabe Abubakar.

The workshop was organized by the Nigerian Army School of Public Relations and Information (NASPRI), held at the 81 Division, Officers’ Mess, Lagos.

NAIJ.com gathered that the COAS delivered a lecture titled: “Counter Terrorism and Sustenance of National Security in Nigeria: Successes and Lessons by Nigerian Army.”

He stated that the Nigerian Army was leaving nothing to chance in the war against terrorism in the country.

His words: “In order to make impact in this war, we have established Radio stations in strategic places and is being utilized appropriately.

“We also created jingles, the essence is to preach true religion and other aspects of security operations to educate Boko Haram on the need to become good citizens and be reintegrated into the society.

“All these have yielded good result as the insurgents have been so decimated. What we are witnessing now is like the case of dying men trying to survive.

“We want the people to know the truth, we let them know the truth, that there is no religion that teaches killings. We believe that with this, we will get to where we are going, and we have done this country great proud.”

Meanwhile, Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno state on Sunday, June 25 appealed to the Nigerian military to intensify efforts to end the Boko Haram insurgency that had ravaged the North East for long.

Shettima made the appeal while speaking at this year’s Eid el Fitr reception for members of the State Executive Council and other dignitaries at the Government House Maiduguri.

He said although the military had recorded tremendous successes against the insurgents, the recent spate of attacks in different parts of the state was worrisome.
