Nnamdi Kanu is holding Nigeria to ransom - Makarfi condemns Biafra agitation

The factional chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ahmed Makarfi, has said the way the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, is going about the agitation for Biafra is wrong.
Speaking during Sunrise Daily, a live television programme on Channels Television on Friday, June 30, Makarfi said Kanu’s method is worse than that of the Coalition of Arewa Youths who issued a quit notice to Igbos in the north.
He said although he was not in support of the action of the northern youths, Kanu’s approach was more infuriating.
According to him, Kanu was holding Nigerians and the country’s economy to ransom through his style of agitation.

He said: “What he (Kanu) is doing is different from what the youth in the north have done. The youth in the north, may be 10 or 15, did a press conference.
“Nnamdi Kanu is holding people to ransom, bringing economic activities to a standstill, holding what will look like a mini rally. None of that is happening in any part of this country. All the leaders in the south-east have said yes we have concerns but the way you are going about it is wrong.
“The northern boys are just press (sic) and they dispersed, period. I am not in support of what they did but I am talking of the manner of their action. Whereas Nnamdi Kanu and his people are consistently holding people to economic hostage and at a particular time, they held the south-east down for a day.
“You don’t find such not just in the north but any other part of the country. You cannot behave that way.”
He praised south-east leaders for condemning Kanu’s agitation, saying the agitations are legal but must be done with decorum and devoid of hate speeches.

He stated that the agitation cannot be wished away, while urging the leaders of the south-east to approach the government to implement the 2014 confab report.
Makarfi said he was in support of calls restructuring and it was wrong for anyone or leader to dismiss the clamour for it.
He said it was up to the government to gather all the ideas, talk to every group and then arrive at a decision on the issue of restructuring.
He also argued that the terms must be spelt out clearly as different people had differnt opinions of what restructuring really is.
For some time, there has been talk of restructuring the country from different quarters.
In an earlier report by Legit.ng, the Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC) has said it will oppose any restructuring exercise done by the administration of President Muhammdu Buhari as the outcome of such would favour the north.
The OYC noted it would prefer that a restructuring exercise to be overseen by an Igbo leader or a leader from the south but not from the north.
On his part, Nnamdi Kanu said that he does not believe in restructuring of Nigeria being called by eminent Nigerians, saying that Nigerian government would not keep any agreement reached in the restructuring exercise.
