The Nigerian military says its Joint Task Force in the Niger Delta tagged ‘Operation Delta Safe’ has made some arrests after storming an illegal arms factory.
The factory where the guns are produced, according to the military, is located at Arhavwarien, Ughelli area of Delta state.
It said guns, cartridges and military equipment were recovered after the raid.
According to the JTF, the raiding of the factory followed an intelligence report that the gang supplied deadly ammunition to kidnappers, cultists, sea robbers, militants and armed robbers.
Rear Admiral Apochi Suleiman, the commander of the Operation Delta Safe, while speaking to journalists in Bayelsa, said a total of 18 people were arrested.

He said the suspects were arrested following various crimes in the region.
He said one of the strategies adopted was that some intelligence officers of the command ordered for a large batch of the weapons from some of the major suspects he named as Isiyaku Ochuko, Ese James and Elvis Philips.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com earlier reported that many people were killed in a communal clash in Yala local government area of Cross River state.
The crisis which started between residents of Wanikade and Wanihem both in Ukelle North area of the state escalated following a land dispute.
Various properties worth millions of naira were also said to have been destroyed in the clash.
