The body of late Dr Maitama Sule, the Dan masanin Kano has been laid to rest.
The Chief Imam of Kano, Prof. Sani Zaharaddeen, conducted the prayer at 6:08pm, with Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje and his Deputy, Prof. Hafiz Abubakar and the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II in attendance.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the late Maitama-Sule (87) was later buried at Kara Cemetery at Kofar Mazugal in Kano metropolis.
Governor Umar Ganduje led other dignitaries to receive the body of late Maitama Sule as it arrived at Air Force Base in Kano.
Other important dignitaries include the Senate President, Dr Bukola Sarki, the minister of interior, retired Lt,- Gen. Abdurrahman Danbazau and the minister of mines and steel development, Dr Kayode Fayemi.
Others were; the minister of water resources, Sulaiman Adamu, the minister of defence, retired Brig.- Gen. Mansur Dan’ali and Accountant-General of the Federation, Alhaji Ahmed Idris,
Also in attendance were the Governors of Jigawa, Bauchi, Sokoto and Borno states among, others.
Members of the Northern Elders Forum, such as Prof. Ango Abdullahi, Galadiman Katsina and District Head of Malumfashi, Justice Mamman Nasir, the Business Moguls also witnessed the funeral.
Busines moguls, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Alhaji Dahiru Mangal and Alhaji Samaila Funtua politicians the business community and prominent Islamic scholars, among others were not left out.
NAIJ.com had earlier reported that the elder statesman passed away on Monday, July 3 in Cairo, the capital of Egypt and his body returned to Nigeria today, Tuesday, July 4.
Also at the Air Force base to receive the body was Senate president, Bukola Saraki and Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto.
Kano state had also declared Tuesday as a public holiday to mourn the demise of its illustrious son.
The state in a statement said the funeral prayer for the late Dan Masanin Kano would be condicted at the Emir's palace.
The statement reads: “The death has occurred today (Monday) of Alhaji (Dr.) Yusuf Maitama Sule, Dan Masanin Kano.
"Dr. Yusuf Maitama Sule died at a hospital in Cairo, Egypt, where he was receiving treatment for an illness.
"Funeral prayer for the deceased will be conducted tomorrow (Tuesday) at the Emir’s Palace, Kofar Kudu, by 4:00pm."
NAIJ.com had earlier reported that the former minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Ambassador Maitama Sule died at 88.
NAIJ.com also reported that Yusuf Maitama Sule was a Nigerian politician, acclaimed orator and diplomat. In 1976, he became the federal commissioner of public complaints, a position that made him the nation's pioneer ombudsman.
In early 1979, he was a presidential candidate of the National Party of Nigeria but lost to Shehu Shagari.
