Sacked Rivers senator raises alarm over inability to file appeal

- Senator George Sekibo (PDP-Rivers) has raised alarm over attempts to frustrate his legal right

- Senator Sekibo was sacked some days ago by the Rivers state national and state assembly election petition tribunal sitting in Abuja

Senator George Sekibo (PDP-Rivers) has raised alarm over attempts to frustrate him from reclaiming his mandate.

The senator who was sacked by the Rivers state National and state Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja on June 28 said his efforts to seek redress is being frustrated.

The senator said his lawyers were yet to receive a copy of the ruling so as to study and file his appeal a week after the ruling.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that he alleged that the Chairman of the Tribunal has been at large and every attempt to reach him or other members have proved abortive.

Sekibo on Tuesday, July 4, pleaded in Abuja, that he should be allowed to have his day in the Appeal Court and nothing else

Legit.ng reported that the Rivers state National and state Assembly Election Petition Tribunal that sat in Abuja sacked Sekibo of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP).

The three-man panel sitting at Apo Quarters in the Federal Capital Territory affirmed the petition of the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) Andrew Uchendu and declared him the winner of the Dec10, 2016 rerun election.

The court directed the Independent National Electoral commission, (INEC), that Uchendu be issued a certificate of return.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that Senator George Sekibo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) representing Rivers East senatorial district, has been sacked by the Rivers state national and state assembly election petition tribunal sitting in Abuja.

The three-man panel sitting at Apo Quarters in the Federal Capital Territory affirmed the petition of the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chief Andrew Uchendu.
