Goodluck Jonathan, Nigeria’s immediate past president, has revealed what he was taught by the late renowned statesman, Alhaji Yusuf Maitama Sule.
According to reports, Jonathan said the late statesman taught him how to be a sound and good vice president to his former boss, late Umaru Yar’adua.
Jonathan made his comments while speaking at the Kano state Government House during a condolence visit to the family of the late Maitama Sule, on Saturday July 8.
The former president disclosed that Alhaji Maitama Sule put him through on good governance shortly after his emergence as the nation’s vice president.
Jonathan disclosed that many people did not know how close he was to the late statesman.
He stated: “This man until his death persistently nagged for a united Nigeria, regardless of religion and tribe while at the front burner of his campaigns remained good governance and God- fearing leadership.
“He never believed in putting money in his pockets. Whatever Maitama got was for his people. He always talked about the wellbeing of Nigeria and Nigerians.
“We have lost a caring leader and father.”
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that two years after leaving office as Nigeria’s president, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan still enjoys goodwill from Nigerians as he was treated to a special welcome in Kano state recently.
GEJ paid a recent visit to Kano state on July 8, where he had gone to pay his condolences to the state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, over the death of Ambassador Dr. Yusuf Maitama Sule.
The people of the state gave him a rousing welcome, with the large crowd flaunting customized banners, chanting his name and even receiving him straight from the private jet he came in.
