Yobe secondary school teacher arrested for criticizing senator, former minister on Facebook

- A secondary school teacher was arrested by the police for criticizing a senator and a former minster of police affairs on Facebook

- The teacher has since been released by the police

- He has also tendered an unreserved apology to the former minister

The police in Damaturu, Yobe state, have arrested a secondary school teach Muhammed Kime for criticizing a former governor of the state and senator at the Eight Assembly Bukar Abba on Facebook.

Kime had on his Facebook page accused the Senator of laxity at the National Assembly.

He said, since his election into power, Abba had not sponsored any bill at the National Assembly.

Also criticizing a former minister of Police Affairs Maina Waziri, Kime said Waziri is a well known druk in Yobe state after Waziri.

Kime wrote: "Well, for the record, we know the man (Abba) to be the most heavy drinker (sic) in Yobe state after Maina Waziri."

“As a senator for years, this man hasn’t for once sponsored a single bill. Neither has he purchased a single nine inch block in the name of starting a constituency project.

“Someone should start the recall process of this man before the real occupant of that seat goes to get his seat! And after the recall, this man shouldn’t step his foot in Yobe. This is too holy a place for people like him…”

Kime was later arrested on Friday, July 7, after Waziri lodged a complain at the police headquarters in the state.

He has since been released.

But shortly after his release, the school teacher told journalists in Damaturu that the police had accused him of defamation of character and incitement.

“Waziri personally came to complain to the police about what I wrote on Facebook; so, the police arrested me. I merely wrote that in the annals of Yobe State, only Waziri drinks more than Abba.

“The police released me on bail and said I should report every Monday until they decide the next line of action to take, whether they would charge me to court," Kime said.

He has however, apologized to the former minister saying he never intended to drag Waziri's name in the mud.

He said: “I duly apologize to former minister, Adamu Maina Waziri over what I wrote of him whilst talking about Sen Bukar Abba Ibrahim.

“As evidently seen in my status update, the message came from my outraged mind and thumbs. It’s not by intention to drag his name to this.

“Action highly regretted and the status is pulled down for peace to reign. I duly apologize and seek for his forgiveness and promise this will not happen again.

“Those that read the purported message should ignore it," he concluded.

NAIJ.com earlier reported that Senator Abba was caught on tape with two ladies in an unknown location.

The video posted by Sahara Reporters showed the Senator having fun with the ladies in a hotel.

However, reacting to the controversial video, the Senator confirmed he was the one in the video and was only being blackmailed.

Although the Senator is yet to name who is blackmailing him, he has however absolved the girls in the video of any connection with the blackmailer.
