- The Action Democratic Party (ADP) noted that the south-east was cheated out of producing the president in 1987 after the death of Shehu Shagari
- According to the party’s south-south zonal coordinator, Rowland Owie, south-easterners have been the bedrock of Nigeria’s development
- Owie stressed that the presidential slot will be returned to the south-east after the north has run its term
Ahead of the 2019 presidential election, the newly registered Action Democratic Party (ADP) has begun scheming to gain victory at the polls.
In an interview with Vanguard, the party’s south-south zonal coordinator and former Senate chief whip, Rowland Owie, noted that in order to achieve its aim, the party has zoned its presidential and vice presidential tickets to the north and the south-east respectively.
According to Owie, this is in order to gain support of voters in both regions.
He stated: “For 2019, we have zoned our presidential candidate to the north and our vice presidential slot to the south-east because where there is no justice, there can be no peace.
“In 1987, it was to be the turn of the south-east to produce the president after Shehu Shagari, but it was aborted.
“The south-easterners have been the bedrock of development of this country, so their rights must be given to them.
“After the north has finished its slot and presidency returned to the south, it will go to the south-east.”
Recall that NAIJ.com previously reported that the national chairman of the new mega party, Action Democratic Party (ADP), Yagbaji Sani, said the party is poised to oust President Muhammadu Buhari from government in the 2019 general election due to the situation in the country.
Sani said the structure of the new party gives it an advantage over other political parties in the country.
He described the leadership crisis in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) which he attributed to poor coordination of affairs in the party’s administration, as a huge advantage to the new party.
