Why Nigeria’s unity is in dilemma - Atiku Abubakar

Former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, has said the unity of the Nigeria is in a dilemma following calls for the restructuring of the of the country.

Atiku made the statement on Monday, July 10, when he paid a condolence visit to Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje over the death of the Danmasanin Kano, Yusuf Maitama Sule, The Guardian reports.

The former vice president said the death of Maitama Sule is a setback for the hope of a united Nigeria, which is currently under threat.

Atiku described the late former Nigeria’s permanent representative at the United Nations (UN) as a unifying factor, who would be greatly missed.

Meanwhile, former Head of State General Abdulsalam Abubakar on Sunday, July 9, described the death of Maitama Sule as touching.

He said that the former diplomat was a complete gentleman and good citizen who dedicated his life to the unity, progress and development of Nigeria.‎

He also revealed that the late politician submitted himself for arrest immediately after the 1983 coup in which many politicians in the country were arrested.

The former head of state said that death of Maitama Sule had left a big vacuum that would be hard to fill, considering the sincerity of the deceased who he noted served humanity well.‎

Abubakar, also who condoled with members of the bereaved family and the state‎ government, prayed God to grant the deceased eternal rest.
