Months after leaving President Muhammadu Buhari’s government, the former environment minister is leading three UN officials on the visit to acting president Yemi Osinbajo.

The delegation is reportedly also heading to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

Mohammed arrived in company of the executive director of UN Women, Dr Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka; the UN special representative on sexual violence in conflict, Pramila Patten; and the African Union special envoy on women, peace and security, Bineta Diop.

The trip is being carried out in conjunction with the African Union and seeks to raise awareness on the importance of women’s participation in peace and security processes.

The trip is also expected to help ensure that women’s voices are heard in all aspects of society.

Apart from meeting Yemi Osinbajo, the top UN officials are expected to hear from women who have been affected by conflicts.

The team would also attend the funeral of Dr Babatunde Osotimehin, the former executive director of the UN Population Fund.

Mrs. Mohammed will return fully to New York on July 28.
