In 3 months we will end Boko Haram, agitations - Peace Corps

- Dr. Chinedu Nneji, the Commandant General of the National Unity and Peace Corps (NUPEC), has reacted to the passage of the Nigerian Peace Corps bill

- Nneji assured Nigerians that in three months the Nigerian Peace Corps will end Boko Haram insurgency and secession agitations in Nigeria

- The Nigerian Senate on Tuesday, July 25, finally passed the Peace (establishment) Corps bill

Dr. Chinedu Nneji, the Commandant General of the National Unity and Peace Corps (NUPEC), has assured Nigerians that the Nigerian Peace Corps (NPC) will end Boko Haram and secession agitations within three months, Daily Trust reports.

Legit.ng gathered that Nneji stated this in reaction to the passage of the Nigerian Peace Corps bill by the Senate. The NPC is an offshoot of NUPEC and Peace Corps of Nigeria.

He said: "We have studied the problems of the country and as I speak with you, we have already prepared our officers and men to be able to launch into the society and restore total peace," he said.

"I assure you, three months after the assent of Mr. President, you will see that the entire country will come to normalcy. Agitation of secession by the Biafrans, the quit notice from the Northern youths and all other agitations in the country now, all will be stopped."

He added that: "We will also dialogue with Boko Haram to make sure that they stop all bombings."

Nneji while expressing optimism that the president will assent the bill when he returned from his medical trip, said Peace Corps will compliment their efforts through mediation.

In a previous report by Legit.ng, the Nigerian Senate passed the Peace (establishment) Corps bill with Bukola Saraki declaring that it was a long journey that finally led the country to the promise land.

"One long journey, we finally got to the Promise land. Thank you all," Saraki said after the bill was passed on Tuesday, July 25, 2017.

In a motion moved by the deputy chairman, Senate committee on interior, Senator Bayero Nafada, the Senate resolved that the federal government of Nigeria should give statutory backing to the existing Peace Corps of Nigeria.
