Arewa youths are targeting Osinbajo - IRA

- A south-east group named the Igbo Renaissance Agenda (IRA) alleges that the Arewa Youth Assembly is trying to cast doubt on Osinbajo’s ability to lead

- The IRA describes the call for arrest of Nnamdi Kanu by Arewa youths as hypocritical and callous

- The southeast group says it is alarmed that the Arewa youths are concerned with Nnamdi Kanu who is non-violent unlike Boko Haram terrorists

A south-east group named the Igbo Renaissance Agenda (IRA) has accused Arewa Youth Assembly of trying to replace Acting President Yemi Osinbajo with their kinsman.

The group alleged that Arewa youths plan the push Osinbajo into making monumental errors that could question his ability to lead so that they can replace him with their kinsman.

The IRA made the allegation on Monday, July 31, in reply to the Arewa Youth Assembly, who, on Friday, July 28, called on the acting president to arrest the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, (IPOB) for what it termed threat to national security.

The south-east group in a press statement sent to NAIJ.com signed by Jude Ndukwe and Amaka Ekwo, its protem coordinator and protem secretary, described the call by the Arewa youths as hypocritical and callous

“Following the call last week by the Arewa Youth Assembly to the Acting President to arrest the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, for what they termed “threats to national security” arising from his movements in parts of his country, we, the Igbo Renaissance Agenda, IRA, wish to state that such calls are not only hypocritical and callous but also prove that the real enemies of Nigeria are the several Arewa groups being used to achieve some sinister agenda by their elders,” it said.

The southeast group said it was alarmed that while Boko Haram and Fulani herdsmen were wreaking havoc in parts of the county, Arewa youths were more concerned with Nnamdi Kanu who is non-violent.

The IRA also claimed that the ultimate target of the Arewa youths is the Acting President Yemi Osinbajo.

"They are looking for ways of pushing Osinbajo into making monumental errors that are capable of imploding the nation so that they would turn around to say he lacks the capacity to lead, thereby using that alibi to create chaos that could see him ousted and have any of their kinsmen replace him.”

“This is why they stated in their vexatious release that. This level of lawlessness has left us with no option than to doubt the ability of our Acting President to successfully preside over the affairs of our country. We know where they are going but we shall stop them in their tracks.

“They are trying to push Osinbajo into the kind of stark indiscretion deployed by Buhari in mishandling the agitations all over the country today. The Acting President surely would not fall for such cheap trap," the group said.

Meanwhile, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu has promised to take the agitation for secession to Lagos and Kaduna state in the coming months.

Kanu announced this when he was visited by some IPOB members in his father's house, Isiama Afara Ukwu, in Umuahia, Abia state on Sunday, July 30.

Kanu also said some media houses in Nigeria do not understand how strong IPOB is and so they print 'lies' about the group.

He also denied that his group, IPOB, is being sponsored by some politicians. Kanu said he challenged those who believed he is being sponsored by politicians to come forward with names of the sponsors.
