The monthly meeting of governors of the ruling All Progressives Congress which failed to hold in Abuja on Wednesday, August 16 has generated a level of confusion as only two governors showed up.
Punch reports that some party members claimed the meeting failed to hold as a result of the short notice given the governors.
Feelers, however, have it that the National Working Committee had to shelve the meeting when they learned that some governors had resolved not to attend the meeting because of their grievances against party leaders.
The two governors who came for the meeting are those of Jigawa state, Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar, and the Deputy Governor of Edo state, Mr Philip Shuaibu.
According to reports, the governors were already at the party secretariat before they learned that the meeting had been canceled.
Some also suggested that governors are unhappy with the leadership of Chief John Odigie-Oyegun who took a controversial position at the recent ward congresses held in Kano and Kogi states.
Reports also have it that some other governors like that of Kaduna state, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, are angry with the position of the party on the last congress.
The failed meeting was supposed to be the fifth in the series of the monthly meeting of the APC NWC and the governors and was also supposed to for preparation for the 2019 general elections. , Punch reports.
However, in his reaction, a party official said the meeting failed to hold because of another meeting of the governors with the Acting President Osinbajo.
“We usually hold the meeting ahead of the National Economic Council meeting; but we have to shift it due to the meeting the governors have scheduled to hold with the Acting President,” the official said.
NAIJ.com had reported that there was anxiety in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) following the rumoured defection of Rabiu Kwankwaso a former governor of Kano state, to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
