- Reno Omokri confirmed the attempt to arrest him at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport
- Omokri said the attempt occurred when his distributor went to pick copies of his book concerning former President Goodluck Jonathan
- The distributor had to escape from the airport
The Department of State Services (DSS) on Thursday, August 17, allegedly attempted but failed to arrest Reno Omokri, an aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan.
Vanguard reports that the attempted arrest was made at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja as confirmed by Omokri.
The report said Omokri had sent a consignment of the book, Facts Versus Fiction, which he wrote concerning the administration of Jonathan and how the Chibok girls’ abduction incident happened, to Nigeria.
However, when the distributor of the book who reportedly bears a striking resemblance with Omokri arrived the airport to pick the cargo, he was said to have been confronted by a customs agent who began interrogating him until a DSS agent came to the scene and continued with the questioning.
“The DSS agent kept asking the distributor, ‘are you the author?’ to which the distributor responded in the negative.
“At which point, the distributor was detained and taken to an office with four or five other people in it.
“After some minutes, the distributor, who heard the DSS agent discussing his fate in an adjoining room, began moving to the door, which had been left ajar, and then bolted and took to his heels,” Omokri was quoted as saying.

The report also quoted the distributor, whose name was not given, as confirming that he was asked if he was the author.
The said they also asked him of the whereabouts of the author as well as his passport.
He said he told the DSS officials that the author of the book was not in Nigeria.
Reno Omokri, who had worked with former President Jonathan for a long time, has been clashing with the Nigerian government as he tries to explain controversial areas of the previous administration.
NAIJ.com reports that he had also remained a strong critic of the Muhammadu Buhari government sometimes clashing with aides of the president.
