President Buhari calls for unity in Sallah message to Nigerians

- President Muhammadu Buhari expresses gratitude to Nigerians for praying for his recovery prior to his return from the UK

- The president appeals to Nigerians to strengthen the bonds of friendship and unity to keep the country together

President Muhammadu Buhari has felicitated with Nigerians, particularly the Muslims faithful on the Eid-El- celebrations.

The president in a statement on Thursday, August 31, by his special adviser on media and publicity, Femi Adesina, extended the Sallah message to Muslims who are currently in Saudi Arabia to participate in the rites of the Hajj.

Buhari also expressed gratitude to Nigerians for praying for his recovery prior to his return from the UK where he had been on treatment.

He said: “From the outset, I want to use this opportunity to thank all Nigerians who prayed for my recovery and have continued to extend their goodwill and support after my return to the country.

"Indeed your fervent and sincere prayers, which cut across religion, political and ethnic divides, has energised me to re-dedicate myself and this administration to the task of building a great Nigeria."

The president appealed to Nigerians to strengthen the bonds of friendship and unity to keep the country together.

He expressed the belief that the country can make progress if all emulate Prophet (Abraham) Ibrahim who displayed obedience to Allah's command and constituted authority.

He said: “We must learn to see ourselves as brothers and sisters from the same heritage, who must come to terms with the African proverb that ‘‘a family tie is like a tree, it can bend but it cannot break.’’

Buhari said his administration will continue work relentlessly to ensure that Nigeria becomes the dream country of every citizen.

"Once again, I assure you that this administration, which has made the security, economic well-being and prosperity of all Nigerians its priority, will not rest on its oars until we see the Nigeria of our dream. I wish everyone happy Sallah celebrations," he said.

Meanwhile, members of the All Progressive Congress ‎(APC) in Jigawa state have held a rally to celebrate the return of President Muhammadu Buhari from medical vacation.

The party members also promised two million votes for President Buhari if contests in 2019.

The Tribune in a report on Thursday, August 31, stated that thousands of party members, mostly youths from the 27 local government areas of the state converged at the Buhari organisation office in the state capital to celebrate the president’s return.

The state’s party chairman, Alhaji Ado Sani Kiri, who addressed the elated crowd, stated that Jigawa has no presidential candidate besides President Buhari come 2019.
