President Buhari to leave Nigeria on September 4 for the US - Popular media reports

- There are unconfirmed reports that President Buhari is leaving Nigeria for the US

- The trip reportedly scheduled for Monday, September 4, 2017 is at the invitation of Donald Trump

- The report from Sahara reporters allegedly comes from sources within the presidency

President Buhari's return to the country on August 19, 2017 led to celebration in some parts. But if reports are to be believed, then he will leave Abuja on Monday, September 4, 2017 for a trip to Washington, DC again.

The trip from Nigeria to the US is reportedly at the invitation of President Donald Trump. According to Sahara Reporters, a Nigerian presidency source says that Mr Trump extended the invitation last February, shortly after his inauguration.

The media house also reports that Buhari is scheduled to leave his hometown, Daura, by helicopter at 9:15 am on Monday, September 4, for Katsina airport. From the airport, he will fly out at 10 am aboard a presidential jet to Washington, DC.

It was also said that the earlier plan was for Buhari to combine the official visit to the US with his participation at the UN General Assembly in New York from September 21 to 25, 2017.

Recall that, President Buhari's last trip outside the country was fraught with criticism and problems, as he stayed in the UK for 103 days.

The British Broadcasting Cooperation (BBC) even accused President Muhammadu Buhari of ''an apparent lack of faith in the health systems at home''.

According to BBC, Buhari was on the list of five African presidents who frequently and without proper consideration of the consequences travel abroad for medical treatment.

Among others were Presidents Abdelaziz Bouteflika (Algeria), Robert Mugabe (Zimbabwe), Jose Eduardo dos Santos (Angola) and Patrice Talon (Benin), Vanguard reports.
