Federal High Court adjourns N300m fundamental rights suit instituted against IGP and 3 others, by Evans
- The Federal High Court in Lagos has adjourned a N300 million suit instituted by billionaire kidnapper Evans, against the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, and three others
- Evans had attached an affidavit of urgency to the suit as he sought a court order directing the police to charge him to court immediately or release him on bail if they are not ready for prosecution
- Justice Chuka Obiozor declared that there was no urgency to the matter and adjourned the case till September 21
The Federal High Court in Lagos has adjourned the N300 million suit instituted by suspected billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike aka Evans, against the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, and three others, Premium Times reports.
Evans had challenged his continued detention but Justice Chuka Obiozor ruled that there was no need for haste in hearing the suit, as the court was on vacation.

Legit.ng notes that Evans wants the court to award N300 million damages in his favor, for his alleged unlawful detention by the Police, without being charged to court.
According to Justice Obiozor, who adjourned the case while sitting as a vacation judge, the urgency of the suit had been relaxed as a result of the arraignment of Evans before the State High Court last week, where the suspected kidnapper had pleaded guilty to two counts of conspiracy and kidnapping.
The presiding judge thus adjourned the case till September 21.
Evans has been in police custody since June 10.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the police was accused of forcing alleged kidnap kingpin Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike aka Evans to plead guilty to kidnapping and felony, by his lawyer Olukoya Ogungbeje.
The lawyer claimed that he was not allowed to consult with his client until the day he was arraigned in court.
