Nigeria to swear in 29 new SANs, including professor indicted for scandal

- Twenty nine out of 30 new Senior Advocates of Nigeria will be sworn in on Monday, September 18

- One lawyer who is excluded from the swearing in is Oluwatoyin Bashorun

- Bashorun is currently under investigation over allegations against her conduct

The federal government will on Monday, September 18, swear in 29 of the 30 lawyers nominated as Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN).

Premium Times reports that the lawyers to be sworn in will exclude one of the nominees, Oluwatoyin Bashorun, over a petition against her.

Bashorun is currently being investigated over allegation against her conduct.

However, among lawyers to be sworn in include a professor and the vice chancellor of the University of Uyo, Enefiok Essien, who was indicted for scandal.

Essien was indicted by the court for abusing a female student, Linda Essell.

Essell was earlier expelled by the university but the Court of Appeal in Uyo nullified her expulsion.

The court also ordered that Essell be allowed to complete her studies at the institutions faculty of law.

Legit.ng earlier reported that the vice president, Yemi Osinbajo, on July 26, swore in two new ministers - Stephen Ocheni from Kogi and Suleiman Hassan from Gombe state - into the President Muhammadu Buhari-led cabinet.

The new ministers were screened and confirmed by the Nigerian Senate on May 3.

The ministers were further inaugurated at the council chamber of the Presidential Villa before the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting.
