IG of police orders dismantling of all road blocks nationwide

- The Inspector General of Police has ordered the dismantling of roadblocks nationwide

- He said the order was necessary to enable Nigerians to do their business with ease

- He also added that police officers on vehicular patrol must always wear their uniforms with a bold name tag and service number

The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has announced the immediate dismantling of all roadblocks in Nigeria, especially the ones on Lagos-Ibadan, Shagamu-Benin and Benin-Onitsha highways.

Other roads listed are Okene-Abuja, Kaduna-Kano, Katsina – Kano, Otukpo – Enugu, Enugu – Port Harcourt expressways.

In a statement on Monday night by the police spokesman, Jimoh Moshood, the IG said that this will enable ease of doing business in Nigeria, safeguard, and guarantee free passage of goods and travellers throughout the country.

Moshood said: “To this end, no police department, section, squad or unit should mount road block without express permission of the Inspector-General of Police.

“Furthermore, police personnel involved in vehicular patrol on highways and major roads across the country must wear their uniforms with a bold name tag and service number.

“The Special X-Squad teams of the Force have been deployed throughout the country, they are under strict instructions to arrest, investigate and discipline any police personnel violating this directive.

“For avoidance of doubt, the Taxes and Levies act, Laws of Federation of Nigeria 2004 section 2 (2) disallowed any person, including a Tax Authority from mounting a Road block in any part of the Federation for the purposes of collecting any Tax or Levy."

Meanwhile, officers of the Nigeria Police Force have arrested several kidnappers who specialize in carrying out operations along the Abuja-Kaduna expressway.

The development was made public by the head of the police Intelligence Response Team (IRT), Abba Kyari.

Legit.ng notes that Kyari disclosed via his Facebook page, that the operations that led to the successful arrests of the suspects were carried out by the IRT and police special forces, who were deployed by the inspector general of police, Ibrahim Idris.

Various weapons including many rifles and other gun models, were also confiscated by the police when the suspects were arrested.
